Masonic Membership Visibility Day
From all of us within Illinois Freemasonry, we’re excited to announce our 2023 Masonic Membership Visibility Day. On Saturday, August 19, 2023, we celebrate being members of this most excellent fraternity with all Freemasons in Illinois. This day is one of our most visible activities all year, in which we will see thousands of brethren across the state proudly display their affiliation with our ancient and honorable fraternity. That outward display is intended to reflect the internal delight regarding our personal and Masonic membership experience.
What is Masonic Membership Visibility Day?
We created this annual recognition day during the 3rd Saturday in August to provide an opportunity for brethren to visibly display their association with the fraternity and their Masonic pride — encompassing both who we are as good men and what we do for one another and the communities throughout the state.
The ultimate goal of Masonic Membership Visibility Day is to have thousands of brethren around the state adorn our Masonic Square and Compasses insignia on a hat, shirt, or other clothing to prominently “Let Our Light Shine” as they go about their various activities on a warm summer day. We want to inspire and display the personal connection that we have with our brotherhood.
Our Theme
This year, the theme for Masonic Membership Visibility Day is “As a Freemason, I am an Example of …”. As you can see from the above flyer (which is available for download here), a Freemason of Illinois is an Example of:

A Lifelong Learner

A Caretaker of Our Legacy
Illinois Freemasons are men of honor, integrity, respect, and service. Through the work of our beloved fraternity, we can make a positive impact on the world today. As highlighted in our Illinois Freemasonry mission statement, we are “Freemasons Investing in Self-Improvement & Being Useful to Others.”
How to Participate
If you would like to join us in this year’s celebration on August 19th, we invite you to download and share the “Day Of” flyer. This flyer is an excellent way to visibly display to other Brothers, family members, and friends the recognition and ownership we take as Freemasons in being positive examples for others to emulate.
We ask that all members help us celebrate on Saturday by wearing clothing (e.g., t-shirts, polo shirts, hats, etc.) that prominently displays our Masonic Square and Compasses insignia as they go about their day. This is our collective way to increase awareness of Illinois Freemasonry and “Let Our Light Shine” in our local communities across the state.
As you have conversations on Masonic Membership Visibility Day, whether in-person or online, we encourage you to share your personal version of the following:
“As a Freemason, I am an Example of…”
If you use social media, include pictures of yourself and other brethren wearing our Masonic Square and Compasses insignia and your personal version of the statement above. Make sure to use the hashtag #MasonicVisibilityDay in your posts to easily share them with our Illinois Freemasonry family!
Most importantly, have fun during our 2023 Masonic Membership Visibility Day! Saturday, August 19, 2023, is an opportunity for us all to demonstrate the pride we have in our brotherhood, and the value we receive on this journey to become the best versions of ourselves.
