IMCAP in Action
“I know it’s a struggle to ask for help. Any Freemason in my situation will feel like, ‘It’s not my place to ask.’ That’s not true. This is exactly the time to ask because we as a fraternity are here to take care of one another.” – Brother Greg Hall
For over 200 years, Freemasons have shared the bonds of brotherhood while serving the communities of Illinois. Charity is a core part of our duty as Freemasons. The Grand Lodge of Illinois A. F. & A. M. and Freemasons of our state are proud to support life-changing efforts for the most vulnerable in our communities. And that includes serving those right here in our fraternity.
Brother Greg Hall is a Master Mason and member of Batavia Lodge No. 404 in Batavia, Illinois. Together with his wife Jill, the Halls have raised three wonderful daughters, but it hasn’t always been easy to ensure they have access to the opportunities they deserve. After a health problem limited Brother Hall’s ability to work, he spent many nights worrying about providing for his children.
At first, it wasn’t easy, but Brother Hall made the difficult choice to turn to his brethren and ask for help. The Illinois Masonic Children’s Assistance Program (IMCAP) was ready to answer. IMCAP is a charity developed by the Grand Lodge of Illinois A. F. & A. M. to support children and young adults in need with developmental, social, financial, and educational means. Through this charity, Illinois Freemasons gives the youth in our state the opportunity to grow by providing funding for extracurricular activities, groceries, school supplies, and many other services.
As IMCAP’s Chairman of the Board of Managers, Brother Randy Milone, stated in the video, the greatest challenge IMCAP faces isn’t funding those in need. It’s getting people to come forward to ask for help. IMCAP understands that it can be hard to ask for assistance. IMCAP ensures confidentiality for every family we help by assigning a unique case ID that is referenced during the review process instead of names.
