Grand Master MWB Joseph B. Ferrell: Welcome to the Conference of Grand Masters
To the Visiting Grand Masters and Brethren:
It is an honor and privilege, as the Grand Master of The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Illinois, to welcome you to Chicago and our 2026 Conference of Grand Masters of Masons in North America. The theme for Illinois Freemasonry during my tenure as Grand Master is “Legacy & Fellowship.” It is fitting that we have an opportunity to host this distinguished gathering of Masonic leaders from our continent and those also gathering with us from across the oceans. Through our combined efforts, we are advancing the legacy of Freemasonry as an institution to help good men develop into the best versions of themselves, combine our strengths to make a positive impact on our communities, and exemplify values like honor, integrity, freedom, equality, and brotherly love in the world today.
Grand Master MWB Joseph B. Ferrell
Like many grand jurisdictions around the globe, Freemasonry has a storied history in Illinois. Most Worshipful Brother Shadrach Bond, Jr. has the distinction of being both the first Governor of the State of Illinois and the first Grand Master of Masons in the state. We also have Most Worshipful Brother Dewitt Clinton Cregier, who was the Mayor of Chicago in 1889 and played a major role in the rebuilding of the city after the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. Also, many of our Lodges represent some of the first incorporated entities in the towns and cities located throughout the state. All of that said, Illinois Freemasonry has deep roots in the advancement of our communities and adds the hosting of this exceptional conference as another milestone in our history.
During our time together, let’s share ideas and best practices to continue propelling our ancient and honorable fraternity forward. Also, a major focus of the conference is an opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of friends and Brothers. Like conferences in the past, connections amongst the Grand Masters and other Brethren in attendance can spark new initiatives launched from ideas and resources shared, along with personal invitations to events occurring in our grand jurisdictions around the world. It is truly a pleasure to see how Brethren dwell together in unity; our love and admiration for one another as Freemasons transcends geography and personal backgrounds. We will enjoy good food, wonderful entertainment, unique experiences, and the collective spirit of Chicago, which is one of the most vibrant cities in the world.
Our Illinois Freemasonry team assisting with the conference wants you to have a memorable and enjoyable time. Don’t hesitate to contact any of us if we can be of assistance. Welcome again, and let’s have a productive, informative, and fun time together.
Fraternally and sincerely,
Joseph B. Ferrell, Grand Master
